Squiggle combines creative play and strategy games with video calling to help children and young people connect with their friends and family in a safe, fun and engaging way, wherever they may be in the world.
Squiggle is free to play for up to 15 minutes. Paid tiers are available which unlock more features and extend the time limit.
Initially created during the UK’s first lockdown in 2020 to help Dan’s children keep in touch with their grandparents, it has since been played all over the world through only word-of-mouth.
Squiggle has recently started working with schools in London to help support the wellbeing of their students and families during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
How does it work?
A player hosts their own private, secure time-limited Squiggle session and invites other players to join the call using the unique invite codes.
Players can draw, play and collaborate together on the real-time interactive canvas. Think classic pencil-and-paper games, such as noughts & crosses / tic-tac-toe, dots & boxes, hangman and, of course, The Squiggle Game, all within a live video call.
Squiggle has different game modes so players can also enjoy chess, draughts / checkers, pictionary, mazes, coloring in and wordsearches; making Squiggle suitable for all ages.
The youngest players love to draw and colour freely, which is very intuitive on touchscreens. Older players enjoy solving a wordsearch together or a quick chess match.
To ensure the Squiggle session is a safe, private space end-to-end-encryption is used for all video and audio data. In addition the Squiggle host has full control of session access.
Squiggle is a website which works on modern computers and devices. It is not necessary to own a smartphone or tablet, or to download any software or install any apps.
Squiggle uses advertising to help pay for our essential costs, such as hosting.

Enjoy free premium access for your school
Squiggle is working with forward-thinking schools and organizations, with a responsibility for the wellbeing of their children and young people, to help grow and shape the future of Squiggle.
Students and members of these organizations will be given free premium access for six months. No payment details or further commitment required.
Premium access allows calls of up to two hours and unlocks extra game modes: chess, pictionary, checkers / draughts. Squiggle sessions can also be resumed after the timer has expired (allowing you to continue a long-running game of chess for example) and there is no limit on the number of wordsearches, mazes, join-the-dots or colouring-in that can be used. Premium is also ad-free.
